As we exit the festive period, we saw a Spurs team that had its ups and downs. Nonetheless, Tottenham finds themselves fourth place in the Premier League, still very much in the mix and in a League Cup Final. Tottenham was expected to play Aston Villa on Wednesday at 3:15 p.m. EST, but will now face Fulham at the same time because of a COVID outbreak in the Aston Villa camp.
Tottenham Hotspur come into this encounter following a 5-0 FA Cup win against Marine in their previous match. In that game, Tottenham Hotspur managed 75% possession and 19 attempts on goal with eight on target.
For Tottenham Hotspur, goals were scored by Carlos Vinícius (24′, 30′, 37′) and Lucas Moura (32′). For their opponents, Marine got five shots on goal with two on target. A run of resolute performances by the Tottenham Hotspur defensive unit has seen their ‘goals against’ tally standing at four from their last six clashes combined. During the same time, their own attack force has managed to score 14.
After originally being postponed due to a Covid-19 outbreak in the Fulham camp, this match has been rescheduled at short notice and replaces the Aston Villa vs Tottenham fixture that was postponed due to multiple positive Covid-19 tests at Villa.
This make-up match does not bode well for Fulham, who are coming off the back of a grueling 120 minutes in the FA Cup third round against QPR this past Saturday.
Tottenham had a much easier task the day after against eighth-tier side Marine. With the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son afforded rests, both will be raring to go and ready to make a big impact against Scott Parker’s side. Spurs should be able to take advantage of a fatigued Fulham and are expected to be victorious by at least two clear goals here.
Predicted Lineup and Outcome
After playing with the chemistry of the starting eleven for the Lilywhites, we can expect that Jose will alter the starting lineup and we will see some new faces on the pitch.
With Winks playing in better form, we can expect he will start in midfield with Ndombele and Hojbjerg, as they could be the trio that Mourinho currently favors to start. However, most fans will be hoping that Dele gets an opportunity to recapture his form.
Although Doherty has started the past few matches in place of Aurier, the former Wolves man picked up a red card in the outing against Leeds, so we can expect Aurier to be stacked at the back with Reguilon, Dier, and Alderweireld.
With Son chasing the Premier League golden boot, we will definitely see him stacked at the top with Kane and Bergwijn, completing the frontline. My prediction on the day is that Spurs will take three points against Fulham with a 2-0 scoreline.
Tottenham predicted XI (4-3-3): Lloris; Aurier, Dier, Alderweireld, Reguilon; Højbjerg, Winks, Ndombele; Bergwijn, Kane, Son.
The Wrap Up:
After a successful week, Spurs’ supporters will be hoping that the club can take three points against Fulham this week to solidify themselves at the top of the table.
