The second full month of the NHL season has now passed us and so two of the three members of theBRKDWN’s End to End hockey podcast are here to present theBRKDWN’s top 5 players of the month.
Center, Edmonton Oilers
14 games played, 13 goals, 13 assists, 26 points, 6 PP goals, 5 PP assists
Bet you aren’t surprised that the current league leader in points so far this season cracked the first spot on this list. McJesus averaged 1.86 points per game in the month of November. Seven of his fourteen games played were multi-point games including two games within a week of each other where he scored two hat-tricks (November 10th and 14th)! McDavid might have managed to have a +/- rating of -5 this month but with all the points McDavid racked up this month, that can’t keep him off this list!
Right Wing, Chicago Blackhawks
15 games played, 11 goals, 13 assists, 24 points, 4 PP goals, 2 GWG
The always reliable Patrick Kane is having another great season so far for the Chicago Blackhawks. He had a point streak that lasted the entire month of November through 15 games, accumulating 24 points, as the Blackhawks somewhat rebounded from their poor start. The veteran Kane is playing on a line with rookie Kirby Dach and Alex Debrincat, and he will continue to pile up the points playing with them. It doesn’t look like the 31 year-old is slowing down anytime soon.
Right Wing, Boston Bruins
14 games played, 12 goals, 5 assists, 17 points, 5PP goals, 3 GWG
Like McDavid, it should be of no surprise to anyone that Pastrnak is one of our players of the month! It seems like Pasta wins a Hard Hat at least every other week on theBRKDWN’s NHL podcast, End to End with Tomas, Joe and Flegs. Pastrnak is seriously making a case for the best goal scorer in the NHL this season as he has 25 goals in 27 games . Is it possible for him to hit 50 goals in 50 games? The closer and closer we get to the halfway point of the regular season the more and more it appears that the young winger from the Czech Republic might actually achieve this milestone!
Center/Right Wing, Edmonton Oilers
14 games played, 4 goals, 19 assists, 23 points, 2 GWG
In the past he was known as Connor McDavid’s running mate but Dr. Drai has established himself as one of the best players in the league. The big German forward is a nightmare to deal with as his vision and offensive IQ compliment McDavid perfectly. Both players had over 100 points last year and they are already at over 50 points in less than 30 games this year! These two are unbelievable to watch play together. Hopefully, Edmonton can provide them some more help in the near future as they hunt for a playoff spot, hoping to make the playoffs for what would be only the second playoff appearance for the franchise during the McDavid era.
Goalie, San Jose Sharks
10-2 record, 2.62 GAA, .902 SV%
All thanks to Martin Jones, the fans over in the Shark Tank got used to winning hockey games this month. The Sharks had an impressive 11-4 record in November, including a six game heater! Martin Jones was a huge part of their successful month with a 10-2 record. Robin Lehner said in an interview this month that he hates shootouts because he sucks at them and he believes there are many goalies in the league that might be good in a shootout but have terrible regulation statistics…
Martin Jones is one of the few goaltenders in the league who can stop pucks in both situations! In addition to leading NHL tenders in wins this month, Jones faced 10 shooters in shootouts and managed to stop all 10 of them! Without a doubt Martin Jones deserved a spot on this list.
