The Seattle Seahawks play home games in CenturyLink Field, home of the 12th Man as they say because Seahawks fans are crazy loud. The Seahawks were very successful during the mid-2010s and part of that success was lead by a very solid Seattle defense.  Nicknamed the “Legion of Boom,” this defense contained some great players like Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner, Walter Thurmond, and Byron Maxwell. This may have been one of the best defensive teams in the history of the NFL and they helped lead the Seahawks to a Super Bowl victory in 2013 over the Denver Broncos, allowing only allowed eight points in the entire game.

For those that do not know, a mariner is basically the same thing as a sailor. The Mariners is an appropriate name for Seattle’s MLB team because Seattle is located in a bay along the United States’ western coastline on the Pacific Ocean. The Mariners are the least successful team in Seattle and they couldn’t put a winning season together until 1991 and haven’t made the playoffs since 2001. They are also one of seven MLB teams to never have won a World Series.

Their success must have paid off because as of last season they were ranked as the third most valuable team in MLS (worth about $310 million USD). Sounders FC share a home at the gorgeous CenturyLink Field with the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL.

Seattle Sport Market Breakdown

Total championships titles won in city: 2

Currently Seattle only has three professional sports teams across the “big five” professional sports leagues in North America. However, Seattle will be getting another professional sports team very soon.Their newly announced NHL team is expected to play its inaugural season in 2021. It is great that to see that the sport market in the area is expanding and hopefully Seattle’s teams will be able to find some more success in the near future.
