Louisville vs. Wake Forest Oct 12, 7:30 p.m.
Line: Louisville (+205), Wake Forest (-255)
It’s time for Scott Satterfield to prove the turn-around of this squad. He has reguivinted life into a hopeless squad from last season. Now it’s time for the Cardinals statement win in 2019 against a ranked opponent on the road.
Strap in, we’re going to be in for a shootout. Neither defense has excelled consistently, so be ready for some big plays. Wake Forest relies on their ability to run the ball to open the pass game for Jamie Newman. They have relied on running up the gut this season. Close to 75 percent of their rushing yards is coming up the middle. If I can find this stat, the Louisville coaching staff will be game planning this. The Cardinals have the talent in the middle to prevent the run, so they will need to stay committed to their assignments. To win this game, preventing big plays and winning the turnover battle will be the key factors for Louisville.
Bye weeks are always great for health, but leaves the potential for a loss of consistency within the team. Most notably, Jamie Newman and his receivers may take a quarter to get back in sync.
Wake Forest May be ranked #19 nationally, however SP+ has them slotted at #51 — only 11 spots higher than Louisville. Both teams have grinded out wins by three points or less against Boston College within the past two, for what it’s worth.
My model has Wake listed at -3.5, so it will be closer than a touchdown game.
The Pick: Louisville ML (+205).

Washington Redskins vs. Miami Dolphins Oct 13, 1:00pm
Line: Skins (-175), Dolphins (+155)
You thought the team I picked last week was bad? LOL, wait until you realize that I am betting on the Miami Dolphins this week. I’m coming off two straight Hungry Dog wins and I feel like I’ve hit a rhythm. Like last week, I happen to have the underdog projected as a favorite (technically this week is a pick ‘em). Coupled with the firing of Jay Gruden, instatement of interim head coach Bill Callahan and that Miami is home and off a bye, I’m willing to swallow my pride and back the worst team in the NFL.
I am not going to sit here and act like Miami is this talented team that is clearly disrespected … This is a team with a -34.2 average scoring margin, controlling the ball under 40 percent of the game and has traded away just about any worthy player on their team. Why back them? Situational handicapping. The Redskins just fired their head coach. The quarterback position has been nothing short of a Merry-Go-Round as they’ve used three different quarterbacks under center this year. Washington is a long way from their bye week, and they desperately need it with a new coach calling the shots … Given that Callahan has had a whopping six days in his new office, I’m very comfortable fading the second or third worst team in the league. As 3.5 point road favorites, that would imply that Washington would be between six and seven point favorite on a neutral field, and pushing double digit favorite versus Miami if this game were held at FedEx Field … I’m not buying it.
The Pick: Miami (+155).
Rex: 3-3-0, +2.90u
Jordan: 3-2-0, +1.60u
Chris: 1-3-0, -1.55u
