Europa League Round of 16 Within Reach as Spurs face Wolfsberger

Adam Roark
Soccer Analyst

Tottenham Hotspur will be turning their attention to the European front come Wednesday, as they will face Wolfsberger at 12:00 p.m. EST in North London for the second leg of the Europa League Round of 32.

Match Preview

Tottenham will be looking to make amends for a heart-breaking 2-1 loss to West Ham United when they take on Wolfsberger in the Europa League last 32, return leg. Spurs rolled over the Austrian side 4-1 in the first leg, with the team moving one step closer to booking their place in the last 16. Jose Mourinho’s troops aim to save the season by going all the way in the Europa League, and we are positive that the hosts will take Wednesday’s clash seriously.

Even though “the Special One” is likely to stick to his rotation policy, a home win should be considered as the visitors head into the match with a lack of confidence. Wolfsberger did well to beat Sturm Graz in the Austrian Bundesliga at the weekend, but they will have a much bigger fish to fry in London.

While Spurs will be the favorites in this match, their poor run of form over the past month may have a few supporters worried about this outcome. I will however be optimistic about this one and say that the Lilywhites will take this one by a scoreline of 2-0.

Predicted Lineup and Outcome

After playing with the chemistry of the starting 11 for the Lilywhites, we can expect that Jose will alter the starting lineup with some new faces on the pitch.

Jose will likely line up with attacking intent, which is bound to be a scrappy match. I see regulars Hojbjerg and Ndombele alongside Dele this week.

We can expect four at the back to fill in the formation, and I think Sanchez will come back with Alderweireld, Reguilon, and Doherty filling out the rest.

With Bale being a surprising attacking force right now, we will definitely see him stacked at the top with Son and Kane.

Tottenham predicted XI (4-3-3): Lloris; Reguilon, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Doherty; Højbjerg, Ndombele, Dele; Bale, Kane, Son.

The Wrap Up:

After a week of mixed feelings, Spurs’ supporters will be hoping that the club can take the second leg of this fixture to inch closer to European glory.
