CDL Week 7 Power Rankings and Major II Predictions

Call of Duty League 2021 is six weeks in and is about to go into its second major tournament of the season. Even with all the insanity of the last two weeks, Stage II still ended up pretty unsurprising for the most part, outside of the Minnesota ROKKR taking the top spot in Group B. Atlanta looked beatable, but still unstoppable for the most part, and Chicago Optic got it moving right before the tourney. Here, I will examine where teams rank before the second major and how I see them performing this weekend.

1. Atlanta Faze

They finally lost a series, going down 2-3 to the Los Angeles Guerrillas, but still took the overall top seed into the winner’s bracket. When you take a look at the stats, you almost need two categories, Atlanta and the rest of the CDL. Losing right before the major probably will have them more motivated than ever. It’s not great, they’ll probably end up seeing Optic in their first match, but anything less than a win in the major will be seen as a disappointment by them and their fans.

2. New York Subliners

I have said all of Stage II that Group B was the better group, but going into the major, the top two teams come from Group A. The Subliners will have to take on Dallas Empire in their first match to possibly meet up with Minnesota ROKKR and I would not be surprised if they beat them both. New York is not a perfect team and they do have their faults. Dallas could easily take them down in the opening round of the winner’s bracket, but give me NYSL making it to a matchup with Atlanta and then finally dropping there.

3. Optic Chicago

Here’s your team that is going to make their run from the loser’s bracket after their first loss. Week 6 was full of memes making fun of Optic and rightfully so. After every CDL fan made jokes about them, they turned it around with a 3-0 victory over Seattle and a 3-2 victory over Dallas Empire in El Classico 2. The king of COD, Seth “Scump” Abner, reminded everyone that he’s still one of the best in the game, with game-saving play after play. I don’t expect them to beat Atlanta the first time around, but once they do drop into the loser’s bracket, they’ll make a solid run. I expect nothing less than a top 3 finish in this major.

4. Minnesota ROKKR

Is it disrespectful to rank the second overall seed as the fourth best team going into second major? Yeah, but I expect the ice to melt in Minnesota before anything crazy can happen. Accuracy and Standy have both been outstanding since their 0-2 start in Group B, but now teams have film on the ROKKR. Two of their three wins were in Week 5 where Dallas and Chicago both struggled mightily, and that’s not something a reasonable fan should expect to keep happening. Even if they can make it to Atlanta, where they’ll lose, the team will more than likely end up with a rematch against Chicago, who will be on a revenge mission against them. They’ve set them up for a solid run the rest of the season, but the fanfare is going to end in the second major. Top 6 finish.

5. Dallas Empire

It’s been a rough past two weeks for this team, but at the end of the day, they have the talent to make a run at any time. With the likes of Crimsix and Shotzzy, the team can out-slay any team. The problem is still Search and Destroy. Dallas ranks in the bottom half of the league in Search with no real signs of improvement. You don’t win majors without being good at Search. In Stage II though, Dallas has been on the better side of the league in Control and Hardpoint. I do expect a quick loss in the winner’s bracket to NYSL and then they’ll make a run to top 6 for the major.

6. Toronto Ultra

I do want to say congrats to Toronto for starting in the winner’s bracket. With that nice gesture, the league drops off a bit at this point. Toronto being in the winner’s bracket reminds of me when the NFL is forced to put a NFC East team in the playoffs. They are 2-3 with wins over the London Royal Ravens and Los Angeles Guerrillas. Nothing about their performances has been that impressive. Someone has to be the last team in the winner’s brackets, so a big round of applause for Toronto.

7. Seattle Surge

Seattle actually has some serious potential as an upset pick in this bracket. They do start in the losers’ bracket, but get the bye on that side. They’ll play either LAG or Florida in their first match with more than likely a matchup against a team like Dallas or Chicago making their loser’s side run. The Surge are getting it together and have already won more matches this year than all of last season. There’s not much room for them to make a big run this major, but if their current trend continues, I expect them to possibly make the winner’s bracket when the third major comes around.

8. London Royal Ravens

9. Florida Mutineers

I’ve mentioned it already, but the top of the league is far and away better than the bottom. What Florida has going for it is the fact they have star talent. Not much noise will be made by them, but I’m sure they will win one mode and some memes will come flying from the COD community.

10. Los Angeles Guerrillas

11. Paris Legion

12. LA Thieves

I can honestly say I’ve never been more disappointed in a COD team in my life.
