Inter Milan take on A.C. Milan at the San Siro this weekend for the all-Milan battle. The Milan derby or Derby di Milano, dates all the way back to 1909 and will be the 225th meeting between the historic rivals. Technically on the schedule this is an away match for Inter Milan; however, they both play at the San Siro, negating the fact it is an official away match. Both clubs come into the match in very good form, with neither of them losing any of their last five matches in 2020. A.C. Milan currently sit in 10th place, seven points behind Roma for a Europa League spot. Inter on the other hand are flying high in second place and after Juventus was upset at Verona on Saturday, Inter could go even on points and take first place with a better goal differential than Juventus.
A.C. Milan come in the match after a very disappointing home match versus Verona. A man up and dictating the play, they were only good enough for a draw on that day. A.C. will have a big boost as star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is expected to be fit for the match according to the manager, Stefano Pioli. Pioli also urged his squad that in order to compete in the big match, they need to fight like Zlatan did to be fit.
This Inter side has been phenomenal this season and hope to use this Milan Derby to help their push for a Serie A title. After a string of draws, Interfinally secured three points and a clean sheet last weekend versus Udinese. They will look to shut the door on the draws and hope to use the victory as motivation to continue the winning streak. Inter had a whole host of players join them in the winter transfer window and they were all able to make an appearance against Udinese. Star striker Lautaro Martinez is out due to suspension and goalkeeper Handanovic is out due to injury, but Inter have plenty of depth to cover those missing pieces.
In my previous article, I spoke about how winning both fixtures against a single squad is a tough feat; however, I believe that this Inter side are strides ahead of A.C. Milan. Defensively, in the midfield and in the attack I give the nod to Inter. They have more points on the season, have scored more goals and have conceded less than A.C. Milan. I also give the managerial nod to Conte of Inter Milan, he will know how to fire his squad up for the rivalry, compared to Pioli who often seems tame. Inter took the first meeting of the season and I look for them to do the same in the reverse fixture.
Prediction: A.C. Milan 1 – 2 Inter Milan
Best Bet: Inter Milan Money line -105
